Chief Justice Boggs has served on the Supreme Court of Georgia since his appointment by Governor Nathan Deal in 2016. He was unanimously selected by his colleagues to serve as Chief Justice in 2022.
Chief Justice Boggs was raised in Waycross, and he and his wife Heather currently reside in neighboring Pierce County. Heather is a kindergarten teacher in the Ware County public school system.
Previously, Chief Justice Boggs served on the Court of Appeals of Georgia and as a Superior Court Judge in the Waycross Judicial Circuit where he founded and presided over the Circuits Drug Court program. He also served as a member of the Georgia General Assembly where he received numerous awards including recognition by the Association of County Commissioners, the Georgia Sheriffs Association, and the District Attorneys Association.
A graduate of Georgia Southern College and Mercer University School of Law, Chief Justice Boggs serves on the Mercer University Board of Trustees and the Mercer School of Law Board of Visitors.
An ardent supporter of efforts to improve the administration of justice, Chief Justice Boggs served as co-chair of Governor Deals Criminal Justice Reform Council where his award-winning work helped establish Georgia as a national thought-leader on responsible reform.
He serves on numerous local and national justice-related organizations including Governor Brian Kemps Behavioral Health Reform and Innovation Commission, the Council on Criminal Justice Veterans Justice Commission, the Board of Directors of the National Conference of Chief Justices, the Council of State Governments Justice Center Advisory Board, and the Judicial Nominating Commission.
Chief Justice Boggs successfully won election to the Supreme Court in 2018 and looks forward to campaigning statewide leading up to the May 21, 2024 election.
